13th Week to 16th Week Pregnancy (4 Months) – Second Trimester

Congratulations to all the mothers-to-be who have entered their second trimester! When the 13th week begins, many pregnant women feel their morning sickness fading, and their energy level increases. They also gain the ability to feel their baby’s movements, and the baby can begin to hear their voice. Your body will show a growing baby bump, and the placenta is now fully developed to provide oxygen and nutrition.

Physical Changes

We have heard about the many changes that pregnant women experience. For example, they may notice a difference in their skin complexion due to increased blood flow and oil gland secretion. Their hair may also feel thicker and look shinier. Additionally, a pregnant woman’s breasts will continue to grow.

Let us discuss the baby’s development from the 13th Week to the 16th week

Week 13: The baby’s head begins to grow, and bones continue to harden.

Week 14: Fine hair (lanugo) starts to grow on the body. The neck becomes more defined, and the lower limbs develop, allowing the baby to move more coordinately.

Week 15: The baby starts to swallow amniotic fluid, and the kidneys begin to make urine. Fingernails form, and the baby’s eyes can become sensitive to light.

Week 16: Your baby develops lips and ears, and their hearing is developed enough to react to sounds. Lungs begin to form tissue for breathing, and the baby practices by inhaling amniotic fluid. Baby is also sucking its thumb, stretching, yawning, and making faces. You may also start to feel these movements as “kicks”.
