Hey, mommy-to-be! Welcome to the end of the second trimester and the start of the third. This final stretch is an intense journey. While challenging, it is also an incredibly special time as you prepare to welcome your baby.
Physical /Emotional Changes :
- Trouble Sleeping: Finding a comfortable position becomes very difficult. Frequent trips to the bathroom and an active baby can disrupt sleep.
- Shortness of Breath: The uterus pushes up on your diaphragm, making it harder to take deep breaths.
- Growing Belly & Skin Changes: Your uterus is now up to your ribcage. You may experience stretch marks on your belly, breast, and hips, and the belly button may pop out.
- Tips: Sleep on Your Side: The left side is ideal for optimal blood flow to the baby. Use pillows between your knees and for support under your belly.
Baby’s Development: 25th to 28th Week
- Size & Weight: The baby’s weight is almost at the gaining stage, from almost ~1.5 lbs to over 2 lbs. Grows several inches.
- Senses: Hearing is fully developed. The sense of smell is active. Eyes open and can detect light.
- Movement: Movements are strong, frequent, and coordinated (kicks, rolls, hiccups).
- Brain & Lungs: The Brain is developing. Lungs produce surfactant and practice breathing.
- Muscle Tone: The baby is getting stronger every day. Kicks, punches, and rolls will feel much more powerful and coordinated.
- Sleep-Wake Cycles: The baby is establishing more distinct patterns of sleeping and waking. You’ll likely notice periods of intense activity followed by periods of calm.
